In its bones, Chicago is deeply Irish. Irish immigrants earned a dollar and a pint of whiskey for up to 15 hours of backbreaking work, they built the Illinois and Michigan Canal painstakingly by hand. Their sweat, blood, and very being transformed Chicago into the great city it is today.
